[*1] the 1926 championship, contested by 9 teams, was the first; Mnazi Moja
were the only "white" club.
[*2] the 1927 season final was played between New Kings and the Comorian Association;
in 1942 Vikokotoni, Kikwajuni and Mwenbeladu inaugurated the "area" league,
while only one team from Stone Town and Malindi joined the league;
Arab SC and Public Works Department (who reportedly "monopolised" the
league for two decades) both won 3 championships in the first decades
of the competition, but the seasons are not known.
[*3] in these years, the champions of Zanzibar (Island League) won the Union
League against the winners of the Mainland (Tanganyika) League and thereby
the Tanzanian championship.
NB: since 2004 Zanzibar are independent members of CAF and will have their
own representation in the continental club cups.
