The Amateur Champions 1902-03 to 1942-43

The game of football was introduced in Mexico by the English workers at the mines and the railroads. The first championship was organized in 1902 in Mexico City with five teams: British Club, Mexico Cricket Club, Orizaba Charleston, Pachuca and Reforma Club. This was the seed of what later became the Primera Fuerza. This league was based mainly in Mexico City. There were other leagues, like the Liga de Occidente (Western League) and the Liga Veracruzana, but the Primera Fuerza was considered the strongest and its champions were regarded as national champions.

(1) These seasons finished with two clubs with the same points tied for
first place, so a tie breaker playoff game was staged.
(2) These were shorter championships played before or after the 1970 and
1986 World Cup finals but they are counted as league championships.
(3) This season the 4 clubs played a final group for the Championship and
the winner was the one with the most points in it.
