on Java
NB: XIs by the hosts generally refer to the "Bondselftal" of the local
"European" football federation, e.g. the V.B.O. for Batavia and the
S.V.B. (Soerabajasche Voetbalbond) for Soerabaja; club teams playing
the Wiener SC tended to be the 1935/36 champions of their federation
(S.V.J.A. for Batavia, Sparta for Bandoeng); in addition, two teams
representating "native" city federations (P.S.S.I. champions Persis
from Solo and P.S.I.M. from Djokjakarta) played the visitors as well
as a Java selection representing the N.I.V.U. (Dutch East Indies FA).

During the boat trip to the Dutch East Indies, the W.S.C. telegraphically arranged
two additional matches in Colombo (Ceylon), but these had to be cancelled as the
steamship to be used from there for the return to Europe was completely booked.
Squad Wiener SC
The Wiener SC arrived with a 17-men delegation in the Dutch East Indies,
including 15 players; trainer Edi Kanhäuser ended up playing in a number
of matches as well, due to injuries such as that of centre half Josef
Chloupek, who only played a few minutes against the Soerabaja selection
and 10 more in the final match in Medan.

until 22 May 1936 (on which day they lost 1-3 to the touring China national
team preparing for the Berlin Olympics), H.B.S. had boasted the proud record
of never having lost to a foreign touring side - at least according to local
newspapers apparently ignorant of a 0-1 loss against a Calcutta touring side
on 11 September 1929. Be that as it may, their win against the first ever
professional club side to visit the Dutch East Indies showed that H.B.S. were
among the strongest clubs of Java. Nawir and Soedarmadji later were part of
the Dutch East Indies squad at the 1938 World Cup.

Note: all goals for Wiener SC were scored in the last ten minutes. Miss Riboet
(Miss Ribut - ribut means "noisy" in Malay) was a famous native actress
who managed a football side (representing her Maleisch Operette-Gezelschap
Orion) since 1928, playing (in green shirts, thus nicknamed "De Groenen")
on selected occasions such as charity matches. At the time, Miss Riboet XI
most likely was the strongest "native" football team in the Dutch East Indies.
In November 1937, striker Abidin was mentioned among the candidates for the
Dutch East Indies 1938 World Cup selection. Miss Riboet XI were a late
replacement for the Midden Java XI as opponents for the Wiener SC.

Van Beuzekom and Zomers later were part of the Dutch East Indies squad at
the 1938 World Cup.
