Champions of the Tournament of Departmental Selections of the North (1926-1967 and 1991) and the Northeast (1968-1990) Confederations
The Confederation of the North is one of the 4 constituting O.F.I., which
organizes football outside Montevideo.
It was originally formed by Rivera, Tacuarembó and Paso de los Toros. During
the period that Cerro Largo participated in the tournament (from 1968 to 1990), the
confederation was denominated Northeast Confederation.
With North Confederation's breakup in 1991, Rivera and Tacuarembó entered to the Coastal
Confederation and Paso de los Toros entered to the South Confederation. After a break
of more than a decade, the competition was resurrected in 2004 as Confederación del
Litoral Norte.
