List of Clubs

Note that this list includes all clubs mentioned in this document, including a number of foreign ones, but is not necessarily exhaustive.
The short versions of the names on the left hand side are used in this document; an additional indication of the home town is only included if a homonymous club from another town appears in the document as well.
The full names on the right hand side appeared at least once in contemporary publications (usually the "Nederlandsche Sport") but for most clubs other versions appeared as well: in particular, the words "voetbal" and "football" as well as "vereeniging" and "club" were often interchanged, sometimes apparently at random, and while nearly all early Dutch football clubs originated from an older cricket club, the "cricket" part was not always included in the name.
Additional information is most welcome.

All clubs in italics were members of the N.V.A.B. at least at some point during the season.

Administrative Developments

At a board meeting on Nov 21, 1891, in Leiden, it was decided to use goal average (deeling) as tie-breaker in case of equality on points (or rather points/match ratio) as opposed to the goal difference rule en vigueur in the 1890/91 season.

In December 1891 Hollandia, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, joined the N.V.A.B.; in March 1892 they were followed by Thor, a football and athletics club in Roermond just founded by P.W. Calkoen (an athlete who also ran under the nom de plume "Ajamblanda" – the Malay translation of his family name); Thor were the first club from the southeastern province of Limburg to join the federation (and the only one to do so in the nineteenth century). However, both Hollandia and Thor resigned again within a year.

At the general meeting on May 8, 1892, in the "Zuid-Hollandsch Koffiehuis" in Den Haag, the federation was officially renamed: "Nederlandsche Voetbal- en Athletiek-Bond" (instead of "De Nederlandsche Voetbal- en Athletische Bond").

[Oct 25, 1891; Malieveld, Den Haag]

[this was exactly the same result as in the first match of the 1892/93 season]

[Nov 1, 1891; Den Haag]

H.V.V. 1-0 V.V.A. [abandoned in 70']
[V.V.A. walked off with 20 minutes left in protest against the goal; they had
pulled the same stunt almost exactly one year before (Nov 30, 1890) against
R.A.P. and had not played any Eerste Klasse match since, only remaining at
the top level thanks to the leniency of the bondsvergadering in Utrecht on
May 3, 1891; needless to say their behaviour drew unfavourable comment]

[Dec 27, 1891; Amsterdam]
R.A.P. 16-0 V.V.A.
[this match set a new record for highest win, easily trumping the 9-0 of H.F.C.
against Olympia on Apr 12, 1891; the record would stand until Jan 11, 1931, so
for more than 39 years, when Ajax defeated V.U.C. 17-0]
[Dec 27, 1891; Rotterdam]
R.C. en V.V. 4-1 H.F.C. [played early afternoon, start 13.35]
Victoria 2-1 H.F.C. [played late afternoon]
[H.F.C. had been more successful at their previous double-header in Rotterdam, on
Mar 29, 1891, when they had beaten both Concordia and Olympia, 6-2 on aggregate]

[Jan 3, 1892; Den Haag]
H.V.V. 1-2 R.A.P.
[Jan 3, 1892; Rotterdam?]
R.C. en V.V. 8-0 V.V.A.

[Jan 10, 1892; Amsterdam]
V.V.A. 4-4 Victoria

[Feb 14, 1892; Amsterdam]
R.A.P. 2-3 R.C. en V.V. [after (double) protest; originally 3-2]
[Feb 14, 1892; cavalerie-kazerne, Kleverlaan, Haarlem]
H.F.C. 12-0 V.V.A.
[as neither club had yet collected 2 points before the match, it was relevant
for possible relegation, but within a week the losing club had been dissolved]
[Feb 14, 1892; achter den Heuvel, aan den ouden Delfhavenschen weg, Rotterdam]
Victoria 0-1 H.V.V.

NB: on Feb 20, V.V.A. (again) withdrew from the competition and were dissolved;
their "results" remained valid for their opponents.

[Feb 28, 1892; Amsterdam]
R.A.P. 4-1 H.F.C.

H.F.C. 7-3 Victoria

Final Table:

 1.R.A.P. (Amsterdam) 9 8 0 1 45- 9 16 Champions
 2.R.C. en V.V. (Rotterdam) 9 5 2 2 30-12 12

 4.H.V.V. (Den Haag) 9 3 2 4 13-14 8 [g.a.: 0.93]

   record at withdrawal: 5 0 1 4 4-41 1

NB: a proposal by (H.V.V. member) Coops at the general meeting on May 8, 1892,
viz. to discount the results of the matches played by V.V.A., was rejected
(5 votes against, 2 in favour, 7 abstentions); it was opposed by W. Mulier
(federation president) because then his club, H.F.C., would have lost third
place on goal average to H.V.V. – if accepted, both would have had 6 points,
H.V.V., whose match against V.V.A. was abandoned at 1-0, with a 12-14 goal
record (thus an average of 0.86), H.F.C., who had defeated V.V.A. 12-0 in
the latter's last ever match, with a 17-22 goal record (an average of 0.77).

International Activity

Antwerp/Rotterdam match

After having played three times in Breda against Rotterdam club sides in 1890 (against Concordia in March and November and against Olympia in October), this season Antwerp F.C. travelled all the way to Rotterdam to take on the new club which had resulted from the merger of their two earlier opponents. As on each of the previous three occasions, the Britons travelled back to Belgium beaten.

Cancelled visit Barnes F.C.

A tour of Barnes F.C., who had agreed to play four matches in the first week of January, eventually did not materialise, the English calling the trip off three days before the first match, apparently because of frosty weather in the Netherlands. Similar visits by British sides to the Netherlands had been cancelled in previous years, usually a few weeks before the scheduled dates, provoking the following exasperated comment in the "Nederlandsche Sport": "In het voorbijgaan zij echter gezegd, dat de wijze, waarop nu reeds eenige jaren achtereen een loopje wordt genomen met den Bond, zeer on-Engelsch is, en het is waarlijk niet te verwonderen, dat er weinigen meer worden gevonden, die in de komst van Engelsche voetballers gelooven, vóórdat zij ze zien."

The following matches had been planned:

[Jan 1, 1892; cavalerie-kazerne, Kleverlaan, Haarlem]

              this appears to have been the first ever Dutch XI selection;
eventually the first match played by a representation of the
