Note: the P.S.S.I. team consisted of 6 players from Persis (Solo), 4 from
P.S.I.T. (Cheribon) and 1 from P.S.I.M. (Djokjakarta);
this draw, undoubtedly a fine result for the representation of the "native"
football federation of Java at its maiden appearance, is occasionally
advanced as proof of the superiority of "native" football on Java as
compared to the "European" version. However, that is stretching it.
Quite apart from the fact that the "European" federations and clubs on
Java were not closed to "native" players (ambonese side S.V.J.A. were
reigning champions of the V.B.O. and supplied a number of players to the
V.B.O. selections; the S.V.B.B./Vios combination which played Nan Hwa on
26 July only consisted for about half of "Europeans"), friendly results
between "European" and "native" city federations suggest otherwise: in
Batavia alone, the V.B.O. beat the V.I.J. 9-0 on 19 July 1936 and again
8-0 on 25 March 1939. In fact, not only the N.I.V.U., F.I.F.A. members
for the territory, but also the H.N.V.B., the ethnic Chinese football
federation on Java, probably boasted a stronger team than the P.S.S.I.

Note: Miss Riboet (Miss Ribut - ribut means "noisy" in Malay) was a famous native
actress who managed a football side (representing her Maleisch Operette-
Gezelschap Orion) since 1928, playing (in green shirts, thus nicknamed
"De Groenen") on selected occasions such as charity matches. At the time,
Miss Riboet XI most likely was the strongest "native" football team in the
Dutch East Indies. In November 1937, striker Abidin was mentioned among
the candidates for the Dutch East Indies 1938 World Cup selection.
Originally Persib (the "native" city federation of Bandoeng) had been
announced as Nan Hwa opponents for this match; apparently Miss Riboet XI
were a late replacement.
