In August 1918, the Philips Gloeilampenfabriek in Eindhoven offered
a silver cup, the Philipsbeker, to the Brabantsche Voetbalbond (B.V.B.)
as the prize for an annual football competition between its member clubs, the
proceeds of which were to strengthen the (then precarious) financial position
of the federation.
The first two editions lasted the entire season, and included several clubs
from outside Noord-Brabant (as the B.V.B. covered a larger area than the
province), with matches played in towns such as Heerlen and Middelburg;
the last four clubs remaining in the competition qualified for the final
match day at the Philips Sportpark in Eindhoven (which thus served as
a Final Four tournament, to borrow a later American expression).
For both editions the available information is incomplete, and any additions
or corrections are most welcome.
Starting with the third edition in 1921, only eight clubs entered, with
quarterfinals held in the week(s) before the final tournament in Eindhoven.
It was further reduced to a one-day, four-team tournament in 1929 and
discontinued after hosts P.S.V. won the second trophy outright in 1934.

contested in Maastricht in 1918 and in Breda in 1919 or the
international tournament organised
by P.S.V. in the eighties.

The Zilveren Valk was contested in an annual tournament organised
by De Valk from Valkenswaard, just south of Eindhoven. After P.S.V. had
won the first trophy outright in 1928 and Eindhoven the second just two
years later, there was a three-year hiatus before a third trophy was put
on offer, which required three (instead of two) consecutive wins or
five (instead of three) wins overall before permanent ownership could
be claimed.
After the last known edition (in 1944) both De Valk and Eindhoven were
just one win away from obtaining the trophy, but no records of later
editions have been found. (Any further information would be most
welcome.)
Two editions (those of 1934 and 1937) included a club from the Belgian
province of Limburg.

The Dennenheuvel-wisselbeker was offered in 1924 by cigar manufacturers Gebrs. Maas in Eindhoven and hosted by Eindhoven (also known as E.V.V.), P.S.V.'s local rivals. Part of the receipts were used to support sanatorium Dennenheuvel in Ossendrecht. It is not known whether the trophy was contested between 1941 and 1944 or after 1945. Any additional information on this would be most welcome.
