The cup was provided by the supporters club of Haarlem. The tournament appears to have been discontinued after 1954, presumably for much the same reasons as the Zilveren Voetbal tournament in Rotterdam, hosted by Sparta, and the competition for the Zilveren Pont in Amsterdam, hosted by De Volewijckers: like Sparta and De Volewijckers, Haarlem, the first Dutch champions after World War II, entered the professional league structure during the 1954/55 season.

The Zilveren Molen van Groenendaal is a silver model of a small windmill
in Heemstede, offered to R.C.H. by the local council at the occasion of the opening
of the Heemsteedsche Sportparken in September 1932.
R.C.H. (then Racing Club Haarlem) had moved to Heemstede, just south of Haarlem,
in the summer of 1932 (however, the name of the club remained unchanged until
July 1965, when it became Racing Club Heemstede in the wake of a failed merger
with E.D.O. and Haarlem). Uniquely, the club won one Dutch championship title
while based in either town (Haarlem in 1922/23 and Heemstede in 1952/53).
The tournament continued after 1952 (the supposedly 64th edition was played
in 1996, but that appears to ignore the fact that the first edition took place
in 1934, and that the tournament was not held in several years); however, there
are no newspaper reports on an edition in 1953 (after a season in which R.C.H.
claimed their second Dutch title) or 1954 (after a season in which the reigning
champions suffered relegation, also
a unique occurrence in Dutch football history); unfortunately, no further results
are available, other than that in 1991 E.D.O. won the tournament. The trophy
apparently could not be won outright and remained in possession of R.C.H. Any
further data would of course be most welcome.

This tournament was first contested in 1952, for a bronze statue of the famous seventeenth century Haarlem painter Frans Hals. It is not known whether it was continued after 1954, when E.D.O., like Haarlem, joined the professional football structure (R.C.H. followed one year later). Any information on that would be most welcome.
