Surinam 1938

S.V.B. Eerste Klasse

No competition held.

At the start of the season, announced in February 1938, only four clubs were admitted to
the top level: Arsenal (formed by most of the first team of Cicerone in July 1937 when
they withdrew from that club), M.V.V., Transvaal and Voorwaarts. As Voorwaarts withdrew,
that only left three clubs in the Eerste Klasse, who played a few small tournaments among
each other, all listed below, and various friendly matches, but no official league.

It is true that there are references in 1939 Surinam papers to Transvaal as champions,
but these all refer to the 1937 league, explicitly so in issues of "De West" from 15 and
17 February 1939 and "Suriname" from 16 February 1939 – these would not have referred
to Transvaal as "Kampioen S.V.B. 1937" if the club would also have won a title in 1938!

As can be seen from the results listed below, Transvaal arguably were the weakest of the
three Eerste Klasse clubs in 1938.
