Java Trip of Singapore Malays 1933

The Malays were the reigning champions of Singapore, securing the local league title in three consecutive seasons (1931, 1932 and 1933). The Batavia and Bandoeng papers complained bitterly on their "unfair" style of play, which caused injuries to host players in several matches, and on their refusal to allow substitutions (which, in case of injuries, were allowed on Java).
In the last few matches in Batavia, the visitors grudgingly allowed substitutions. Players of B.V.C., their first "victims", refused to play as part of the Batavia city selection on 26 August.

The trip also had repercussions for several star players of the touring side: for having accepted payment to participate in the tour, Abdul Rahman Haji Ali, "Dolfattah" and "Mat Noor" were suspended by the Singapore federation for the entire 1934 season.
