Nigeria 1931-1945


During colonial time (before 1945), there were regional football associations in Nigeria, such as in Port Harcourt, Calabar and other coastal cities.
1930

In 1930 (other sources: 1931) the Lagos League was formed.

Participating teams:
   Lagos United FC
   Railway African Amateur Club
   Diamond FC
   Public Works Department [PWD]
   Calabar XI
   Locomotive Apprentice FC
   Survey FC
   Nigeria Marine African Staff Recreation Club
   Star FC
   French FC
   Red Roof FC
   Oriens FC
   Posts and Telegraphs FC

1931

Lagos League members included:

   Railway Africs
   Police
   Lagos Town Council
   Calabar Eleven
   Harbour Eleven
   Corinthians
   UAC
   CFAO (a French company which fielded an all-European team)

Other clubs that entered the new league (in 1931 or soon after):
   Shell
   Zik's Athletic Club

In later years, the following clubs joined:
   Rangers
   Young Arsenal
   Young Everton
   European Eleven
   Muslim Eleven
   Young Asiatics
   EB Silver Club
   Jolly Holiday Makers

1933

1939

The Lagos League had a senior and a junior section but in 1940 they were combined.

1940

The Lagos League had 13 member clubs:

All other clubs only played knock-out tournaments such as:
