South East Asia Tour of Nan Hwa 1931

This was the second visit that Nan Hwa (the Hongkong club also known as South China) paid to the Dutch East Indies, after a short trip in June 1929 with an apparently substandard team. This time they took the full squad (many players would be part of the China 1936 Olympic squad), including superstar Lee Wai-tong ("Number Nine"; the tourists played most (possibly all) matches with shirt numbers), who had visited Java before with Loh Hwa.
The Batavia section of H.C.T.N.H. (Hua Chiao Tsing Nien Hui) took care of the organisation of the trip. No matches were played in Soerabaja as the S.V.B. could not agree (financial) terms with the organisers.
Nan Hwa left Hongkong on May 26 with the ss Sphynx and played 3 matches in Saigon before arriving in Tandjong Priok (Batavia harbour) on June 6 with the J.P. Coen (coming from Singapore). After leaving Batavia on July 15 they played 3 matches in Singapore before concluding their tour in Medan.
