The catholic A.S.C. (Association Sportive Congolaise) was founded in 1919 by four clubs: in 1931 it had 16 members, but following a crisis only five of those were left in 1933.
Between 1923 and 1950 clubs from Léopoldville joined those from Brazzaville (in the French colony across the Congo river) in the Stanley Pool Championship.
