DR Congo (Zaire) - Katanga Champions

Competition for clubs from Katanga (a region of the current DR Congo, then part of Belgian Congo), organised by the Ligue de Football de Katanga (LFK), a 'white' organisation.

The whites-only Ligue de Football du Katanga was founded in Elisabethville (now Lubumbashi) 1911; the 1925 edition of the local championship comprised 4 clubs who competed for the B. Smith Cup.

For the (known) champions of the 'black' Elisabethville Football Association (FASI, Fédérations et Associations Sportives Indigènes), see Congo-Kinshasa - Regional Champions.

A Katanga representation organised by the FASI played in a 'sub-Saharan championship 1950'.

In the 1950s several cup competitions involving both African and European teams from the mining towns of Katanga (Elisabethville, Jadotville, Kolwezi and Shinkolobwe) were organised by the "white" Ligue Royale de Football du Katanga; of these, the Gillet Cup became the biggest football competition in the region, while the Buttgenbach Cup was first held in 1957; its first edition was won by Panda, a "white" mining team which also won the Gillet Cup and the 50th Challenge Cup that year.
