The championship was interrupted end of September, again because of financial problems. Petrosport were dissolved in December 1999: LIBREVILLE, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Gabon champions Petrosport will cease to exist after losing their sponsors, oil firm Elf-Gabon, officials said on Saturday. Elf-Gabon director-general Jean-Pierre Cordier told journalists the company would close down Petrosport immediately. Petrosport, champions in 1998 and leading the championship in 1999 when it was suspended for lack of cash, will cede their place in the African Champions Cup to second-placed FC 105. Petrosport was created in 1956 by Elf, which is in the process of merging with fellow French oil group Total-Fina. Cordier said the decision had been taken six months ago. Cordier said Elf-Gabon planned to sponsor a group of smaller sports associations instead. Later this dissolution was cancelled.
