The first goal for Girondins weren't a goal, it never cossed the line,
but mdM's protest was handed in too late and the federation
didn't order the replay. Otherwise the absences were far
too obvious. Anyway the most important is, we are through :-)

Auxerre had a lot of chances in the first half, all wasted or
taken by an excellent Gaetan Huard. We had our bright moments too,
even if they weren't as many. Zidane had a freekick and Valdeir
and Dutuel forced Fabien Cool (cool name, isn't it?) to good saves.
In the second half, Girondins went two up within two
minutes, Zidane set up the first for Valdeir. While
the Brazilian cross set up Bixente Lizarfu to head home the second.
(It all starting with a pass by Fournier).
L'AJA pulled one back late on when we failed to clear a Lamouchi
corner and Frank Verlaat was allowed to slot home from
the penalty spot. Next match is Sochaux at Lescure on
Friday.

Girondins got a big blow on 18 minutes when Jean-Luc dogon delibarately
handled a certain goal. He was promtly sent off while Franck Leboeuf
hit the crossbar on the following penalty. Howeve, the referee kept
handling out the reds to Bordeaux players, sending off Gatean Huard for
handball outside the area (was it really outside?), quite harsh
IMHO. Until that point, Gaetan Huard have been playing great whilst
Racing failed to take advantage on the numerous dominance. With two
men short, Zinedine Zidane almost snatched the winner on a freekick.
In extra-time, Bordeaxu failed to stay in the game with a Mostovoi goal
on a Garde cross and then a dubious penalty after Keller slipped (wet
pitch) in the area (unless you say Perez fouled him, which I wouldn't
say). William Prunier was understandably upset, but his actions
are still not defendable and was sent off, to. Quite miraculous
that all Racing players stayed on the pitch, though.

match was over.

Cantona (OM) red card.
Les Parisiens advanced to the final thanks to a good first half. Ricardo
grabbed the lead already in the fourth minute on a nice header and Georges
Weah added the second shourtly after the half hour mark. The second
half appear to have been a lot less exciting if you don't consider
the red card for Joel Cantona, for dangerous play, as exciting.
