Trophy named after Nnamdi Azikiwe, then head of state of Nigeria and one of its founding fathers.
In the sixties, Ghana and Nigeria played several matches for the cup, which can be considered the successor tournament of the Jalco Cup. For the sake of completeness, all known other encounters between Ghana and Nigeria held between 1960 and 1965 are listed here as well.
