The CSL is the only truly full-scale attempt to create a top level professional soccer league in Canada. At times teams could reach crowds of 10,000, but the talent often lacked, and attendance quickly fell off. Team struggled constantly under financial losses and finally the league folded after only 6 years of existence, with three remaining teams joining the American Professional Soccer League. Edmonton joined the league from the Western Soccer Alliance.
