In December 1982 a team billed as the "Brazilian All-Stars" undertook a tour to East Asia. This team was a combination of players almost entirely from Minas Gerais clubs, principally Atlético Mineiro. It was reported that proceeds of the tour would go to the players' union AGAP (Associação de Garantia ao Atleta Profissional de Minas Gerais), and that the touring team was representing this organization. During the tour some administrative controversy developed, as the players had reportedly not received permission from their clubs nor the CBF to take part.
