A match against China was also scheduled but this was cancelled due to political unrest.
Various sources give Alex Ferguson and alternatively Harry Hood as the scorer of the second goal against Israel. The Times of London has Eddie Colquhoun scoring the winning goal.
Some sources have Auckland as scoring a goal at Newmarket Park. These appear to be incorrect.
Eddie McCreadie of Chelsea and Frank McLintock of Arsenal were selected to tour but both withdrew owing to injury. Ian Ure was injured in the match in Israel and returned home. The Kilmarnock duo of Jackie McGrory and Tommy McLean joined the touring team in Australia as replacements.
Seven of the Scotland XI did not play for their country in full internationals. These were Alan Anderson, Alex Ferguson, Harry Hood, Harry Thomson, Hugh Tinney, Jim Townsend and John Woodward.
Andy Penman had not yet made his debut for Rangers. He had been signed at the end of the 1966-1967 season from Dundee.
Team manager Bobby Brown was the former Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper.
