Scotland trained at the stadium the night before the game. They protested because the floodlighting wasn't up to FIFA standards. After a meeting of the FIFA executive committee the following morning, the 18.45 EET kick-off time was moved to 15.00 EET. Estonians were unhappy with the switch and said they wouldn't turn up. Scotland turned up at the appointed time and kicked off. The referee then blew his whistle to stop the game. Scotland should have been awarded a 3-0 won as per the rules, but FIFA decided to play the match in a neutral country and it was played on 11th February 1997 in the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The Serb Miroslav Radoman was listed as a referee of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as per the notes on the overview page of "Scotland - International Results" at point 10.
