Due to this result, the french newspaper Le Journal nicknamed Paulistano
"Les rois du football" (The kings of football).
It should perhaps be noted that the French national side was in the middle
of a 6-match losing streak in official encounters; one week after the above
match they lost 0-7 against Italy in Torino, their heaviest defeat since a
1-8 drubbing by the Netherlands in Amsterdam less than two years before.
