Arab School Games

Little information is known about the football tournaments in this series over the years. Additional data are welcomed by the author (nfm24[AT]cantab.net).

The earliest editions were arranged by the sporting authorities of Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria for competition between school students from these countries. Football, basketball, and volleyball have been played since the beginning in 1949, and athletics since 1951. After a hiatus, the Games was relaunched in the early 1960s under Arab League sponsorship. Female students were first allowed to participate in 1973. Futsal, for both genders, has been included since 2008. Modern editions are organized by the Arab Union for Physical Education and School Sports (AUPESS).
