Niger 2001

National league:

Five teams from the Ligue de Niamey (6 teams at 1st level, 8 at 2nd)
suspended their activity in the national championship until March 24
in protest against the relegation of Zumunta AC.

The teams concerned were:
Olympique FC, Sahel SC, AS FAN, AS FNIS and Liberté FC

Liberté later joined JS Ténéré as the 2 Niamey teams to take part in the
12-team championship.

The Niamey league started its own 'Coupe des Sponsors' in July.

Top-3 of each group qualified and play single round robin (5 matches each).

Since the introduction of the Super League in 1998, this is the first time

October - peace was made between FENIFOOT and Niamey League.
Next season 20 teams will enter the Niger Championship:

11 teams of the 2001 championship;
 5 Niamey League teams: Sahel, Olympic, AS FAN, AS FNIS, US Gendarmerie.
 2 relegated teams of 2000 championship: Zumunta AC and Aigle de l'Aïr (Agadez).
 2 promoted teams from 2001 2nd level FENIFOOT Championship: 
   Gourama FC (Konni) and Dendi (Gaya).



NB: the 2001/02 championship was cancelled for financial problems.
