Nigeria tour of England 1949

The Nigerians arrived at Liverpool on 29th August, and left
from Liverpool on 29th September.

The squad consisted of 18 players picked from the best Nigerian
teams, and was representative of the Nigerian Football Association.
They played nine games against English amateur clubs and league
selections. On hard grounds they preferred to play barefoot but
wore boots on soft ground. To supplement post-war rationing in
England, the team brought their own supply of food, including yams,
rice, peppers, and shrimps.
