Currently, no organised soccer is played on the island (it stopped in 2004 due to lack of facilities). Until then, the Black Brothers, a club representing the Solomon community of the island, had been the most successful club. In 2014, a match between refugees living on the island (41 in total) and a combined Nauru team was organized in honour of World Refugee Day. This match was played at Denig Oval. [Jun 20] Nauruans - Refugees This is perhaps the second time a Nauru football team has played a match, the first reportedly coming from 1994 where a team of locals from the island won 2-1 over a squad of phosphate workers from the Solomon Islands. It appears that there has never been a official Nauru national football team.
