Torneo de los Barrios

The “Torneo de los Barrios” (Neighborhoods Tournament) was a competition organized and sponsored by the newspaper “El Heraldo de México”, involving more than 500 teams throughout the Mexican republic. Only amateur players of schools, neighborhoods, institutions, etc. could take part.

There were qualifying rounds at the estate level, then, around 128 teams traveled to Mexico City for the final stage.

The final stage was played in the fields of the Ciudad Deportiva de la Magdalena Mixhuca.

The third place match and the final was played in Estadio Azteca (except in 1970, played in Estadio de la Ciudad de los Deportes).
