Regional Stage
NB: originally the championship was set up in three regional conferences, with
the top-2 of the northern and southern conferences to join the top-4 of the
central one in a national phase, to be played in two groups, with the two
group winners playing off for the championship;
after four clubs refused to play matches out of disagreement with the format,
those were excluded and the remaining dozen were placed into a single group;
the results of six of the seven matches played until then were carried over.
