Three team tournament held to inaugurate the new Great Artificial River 
Stadium, named after a vast project to provide fresh water through 
3,800 kilometres of pipes to the country's barren Mediterranean coast. 

Middlesbrough featuring Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne played with midfielder 
Phil Stamp in goal with first choice keeper Mark Schwarzer having suffered 
a double hernia injury, while back up Marlon Beresford was struggling with 
a back problem - third choice Chris Bennion also had hernia problems, so 
Stamp stepped in.

The Tripoli side was a select side made up of the top players from Tripoli 
based clubs, one player included was Saadi Al-Ghaddafi, Libyan leader 
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, who played for Al-Ittihad.
