The first editions of the tournament were organized by Atlético, as a tribute to its former president (1987-2003) Jesus Gil y Gil, who died in 2004, at the Vicente Calderón Stadium in Madrid and with the collaboration of Real, who played the first two editions 2005 and 2006.
In the summer of 2013 the tournament was revived in the city of Burgo de Osma, Soria, hometown of the late president. It takes place in the Municipal Stadium of Burgo de Osma, the first edition of 2013 between CD Numancia, as a club of the region (Soria) and the Club Atlético Madrid.
The trophy is a silver replica of the tower of the Cathedral of Burgo de Osma and measures approximately one meter high.
