FC Lokomotive Leipzig Berliner FC Dynamo / FC Berlin SG Dynamo Dresden Notes: The DDR-Nachwuchsoberliga existed between 1976/77 and 1982/83 and again from 1989/90 until 1990/91, the final season before the unification of the East and the West German football pyramid. Players above Youth A level (Junioren), depending on the applicable regulations for its two incarnations, could play in this league. Between 1968/69 and 1975/76 and again from 1983/84 until the 1988/89 season the DDR-Juniorenoberliga (East German Youth A Premier League) existed where only Youth A level players where eligible to play. In these years the winner of this league was crowned DDR-Juniorenmeister (see list below). For DDR-Nachwuchs- and Juniorenoberliga there was no promotion and relegation on the pitch. The 14 teams mirrored in every season the line-up of the men's DDR-Oberliga (East German premier league).

For example until 1982/83 a Juniorenliga AK 17/18 (Youth A League Under 17/18) existed in which the state-sponsored football clubs and SG Dynamo Dresden, which was equal to them, competed. Because in the Nachwuchsoberliga 1989/90 and 1990/91 mainly Youth A level players were competing some sources list the champions of this two seasons also as East German Youth A Champions.
