Before 1949, China only occasionally took part in international competition, either the Far Eastern Games or, in 1936 and 1948, the Olympics. Therefore, the main fixtures were the Interports. These were annual matches between city select XI's.
The main event between the two main football centres in pre-1949 China. It started as a match between expatriates, but Chinese players were included for the first time in 1925. Since 1924, it was played for a trophy donated by the Hong Kong Telegraph.
