In May 1914, Celtic FC Glasgow and Burnley FC were on tour in Central Europe. As league champions of Scotland and England, a Hungarian newspaper, the "Hungarian News" donated a cup for a charity match between the two British sides. The game was played at the ground of Ferencváros TC. 21-5-1914 Celtic FC-Burnley FC 1-1 Attendance 10.000 (McMenemy on penalty ; Boyle also on penalty) Celtic refused to play extra time and the two clubs arranged a replay in Burnley: 1-9-1914 Celtic FC-Burnley FC 2-1 Played at Turf Moor stadium Attendance 10.000 Celtic FC: Shaw, McGregor, Dodds, Young, Johnstone, McMaster, McAtee, Gallacher, McColl, McMenemy, Browning. Burnley FC: No details available. (McColl, Gallacher ; Watson on penalty) The Hungarian silver cup was not presented in the field. The trophy was lost in the early days of the First World War. Finally, in May 1988, the chairman of Ferencváros TC, Zoltan Magyar, presented at Celtic FC a handsome vase to make up for the disappointment of 1914.
