Afghanistan - List of Champions

A first league tournament was contested in 1923, between four school teams: Maktab Habibiyeh, Maktab Esteghlal, Tafrih Team and Mohajer Team.
In 1937, Mahmoudiyeh FC travelled to British India where it played 18 matches against Indian teams, winning 8, losing 9 and drawing 1.
In 1949, Ariana Kabul FC, the second Afghan football club, traveled to Tehran, Iran, where they played 3 matches, winning 1 and losing 2.
The first domestic club league was established in 1946 with the foundation of the Kabul City League, comprising 12 clubs. Other regional or city leagues existed in the seventies in Herat, Kandahar and Mazar-e Sharif.
