At the 52th minute the referee was left unconscious after being hitted by a bottle, and the match was delayed for 50 minutes, and when Robles woke up, he decided to finish the match, but but due to very serious menaces of Santos delegates, coach, players, and even politics, he was forced to continue the match until finally giving the final whistle at the 82nd minute. This 30 minutes were played "unofficially", as the referee himself comunicated to the CSF board in the match report. During this abnormal period, Santos equalised at 66th with a goal by Pepe (116th minutes including the delay) (at the same moment, the linesman Massaro was also hit by a bottle, delaying the match again as he was treated in the stadium facilities), and a penalty was sanctioned in Peñarol's favour at 79th, which Robles was forced by Santos players and supporters to rectify his decision by sanctioning only a free kick. The official result was off course 3-2 to Peñarol, then confirmed by the CSF. ______________________________ 019 30th August 1962 (Final - Playoff) PEÑAROL - SANTOS (BRA) 0-3 (0-1) Leopold Horn HOL 60.000, Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti "Monumental", Buenos Aires, ARG 0-1 Caetano 11 o, 0-2 Pelé 48, 0-3 Pelé 89 PEÑAROL: (Coach: Bela Guttman) Luis María Maidana, Juan Vicente Lezcano, Núber Cano, Omar Caetano, Néstor Gonçalves, Edgardo González, Roberto Matosas, Pedro Virgilio Rocha, Alberto Pedro Spencer, José Francisco Sasía, Juan Víctor Joya SANTOS: (Coach: Luiz Alonso "LULA") Gilmar, Mauro, Calvet, Lima, Zito, Dalmo, Dorval, Mengalvio, Coutinho, Pelé, Pepe Notes: Santos Champions, won 7-4 on aggregate.
