================================== Subject: FIFA to ban tackling?!!!! Date: Wed, 08 Oct 1997 20:20:22 -0700 From: steve d (stephen.davies@bbsrc.ac.uk) Just taken this off the sporting life site (superb for UK football + other sports news - www.sporting-life.com). If they're going to ban tackling, they might as well make all the players run around in floral dresses with ribbons tied in their hair. BLATTER WANTS TACKLING BANNED World football's ruling body FIFA has called for tackling to be banned in order to protect the game's most gifted players. "We must outlaw the tackle in the football of the future," said FIFA secretary general Sepp Blatter in an interview with the German sports agency SID. "We have to combat aggression, especially in matches where the stakes are high," he added. "Players like Ronaldo are being literally kicked to pieces these days and that is not acceptable." Blatter said the issue had already been raised with FIFA's International Board and would be fully discussed next March. "The first time it was mentioned there were some disapproving coughs. The second time we did get round to discussing it, and the next time, in March 1998, the matter will be debated in full." ------------------------------------- Subject: FIFA to ban football by 2000 Date: Thu, 09 Oct 1997 19:42:49 -0700 From: steve d (stephen.davies@bbsrc.ac.uk) BLATTER WANTS FOOTBALL BANNED World football's ruling body FIFA has called for football to be banned by the year 2000 in order to protect the game's most gifted players.
