He held the Dutch caps record from June 21, 2006 (when he equalled the total of Frank de Boer) until June 9, 2017 (when his total was surpassed by Wesley Sneijder). He holds the Dutch caps record for goalkeepers since August 20, 2003 (when he equalled the total of Hans van Breukelen).
He established a record series of 38 consecutive appearances (caps 71-108) which was not interrupted by any other matches of the Dutch national team. This broke the previous record of 35 established by Roel Wiersma between 1954 and 1959.
