NOTES: Junior Internationals are matches played by the team selected from players playing for member clubs of the Scottish Junior Football Association against teams representing, over time, England, Ireland, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Wales. Amateur Internationals are matches played up to and including the 1973/74 season. In 1974 the Football Association removed the distinction between amateurs and professionals simply calling them players. This meant the end of the British Amateur Home International Championship and the end of the Scotland amateur team playing international matches. Two players came very close to playing for Scotland at all three levels: Alec Stewart (Perth YMCA & St Mirren) – Junior & Amateur While at Motherwell he played for the Scottish League v Football League in 1937 and would have probably been under consideration of a full cap. Willie Pettigrew (East Kilbride Thistle & Motherwell) - Junior & Full. In the 1972-73 season he scored two goals in the first-half of a trial for the amateur international team. The probable reason he did not win an amateur cap is that his club were progressing well in the Scottish Junior Cup and he was playing for the Junior Scotland side. He may not have been able to meet the additional training and playing commitments. Ian Prentice (Irvine Meadow XI) played in both an amateur and junior international match less than 24 hours apart. On the evening of Friday 15 March 1963 he played for the Scotland amateur team against England at Hampden Park, Glasgow. On the afternoon of Saturday 16 March 1963 he played for Junior Scotland against Northern Ireland at Firhill Park, Glasgow.
