Before the 1994 World Cup, France Football published a special supplement named "Les 100 Héros de la Coupe du Monde" (The 100 World Cup Heroes). It included a ranking of top 100 World Cup Players from 1930 to 1990; only players from the final phases (not the qualifying stages) were considered and ranked, based exclusively on their performances at World Cup level. The supplement includes a note in which France-Football states that some of the undisputed all-time greats like Puskas, Di Stéfano, Platini or Yashin, are not on their list because they didnīt succeed at World Cup level. Here is the complete list. 1 Edson Arantes do Nascimento "PELÉ" (Bra) 2 Diego MARADONA (Arg) 3 Franz BECKENBAUER (Ger) 4 Just FONTAINE (Fra) 5 Gerd MÜLLER (Ger) 6 Manoel Francisco dos Santos "GARRINCHA" (Bra) 7 Bobby MOORE (Eng) 8 Juan SCHIAFFINO (Uru) 9 Fritz WALTER (Ger) 10 José Leandro ANDRADE (Uru) 11 Paolo ROSSI (Ita) 12 Geoff HURST (Eng) 13 Helmut RAHN (Ger) 14 Gordon BANKS (Eng) 15 Mario KEMPES (Arg) 16 Sandor KOCSIS (Hun) 17 EUSEBIO Ferreira da Silva (Por) 18 Bobby CHARLTON (Eng) 19 Silvio PIOLA (Ita) 20 Johan CRUYFF (Hol) 21 Giuseppe MEAZZA (Ita) 22 Dino ZOFF (Ita) 23 Lothar MATTHAÜS (Ger) 24 AMARILDO Tavares de Silveira (Bra) 25 Roger MILLA (Cmr) 26 LEONIDAS da Silva (Bra) 27 Antonio CARBAJAL (Mex) 28 ADEMIR Marques de Menezes (Bra) 29 Guillermo STÁBILE (Arg) 30 Uwe SEELER (Ger) 31 CARLOS ALBERTO Torres (Bra) 32 Teófilo CUBILLAS (Per) 33 Pak DOO-IK (NK) 34 Oldrich NEJEDLY (Cze) 35 Grzegorz LATO (Pol) 36 Angelo SCHIAVIO (Ita) 37 Florian ALBERT (Hun) 38 Eduardo Goncalves Andrade "TOSTÃO" (Bra) 39 Evaldo Izidio Neto "VAVÁ" (Bra) 40 Raymond KOPA (Fra) 41 Luis MONTI (Arg & Ita) 42 Giovanni FERRARI (Ita) 43 Alcides GHIGGIA (Uru) 44 Josef MASOPUST (Cze) 45 Jürgen SPARWASSER (GDR) 46 Rob RENSENBRINK (Hol) 47 Kurt HAMRIN (Swe) 48 Paul BREITNER (Ger) 49 Salvatore SCHILLACI (Ita) 50 Joseph GAETJENS (USA) 51 Lucien LAURENT (Fra) 52 Jair Ventura Filho "JAIRZINHO" (Bra) 53 Waldir Pereira "DIDI" (Bra) 54 Emmanuel SANON (Hai) 55 Nils LIEDHOLM (Swe) 56 José NASAZZI (Uru) 57 Sepp MAIER (Ger) 58 GILMAR dos Santos Neves (Bra) 59 Mario Jorge Lobo ZAGALO (Bra) 60 Gary LINEKER (Eng) 61 DJALMA dos SANTOS (Bra) 62 Sergio GOYCOECHEA (Arg) 63 André ABEGGLEN (Swi) 64 Viliam SCHROIF (Cze) 65 Jozsef BOZSIK (Hun) 66 Pat JENNINGS (N.Irl) 67 Luigi RIVA (Ita) 68 Frantisek PLANICKA (Cze) 69 Thomas NīKONO (Cmr) 70 Sandro MAZZOLA (Ita) 71 Peter SHILTON (Eng) 72 André NEURY (Swi) 73 Hans KRANKL (Aus) 74 Harald SCHUMACHER (Ger) 75 Dragoslav SEKULARAC (Yug) 76 Roberto RIVELINO (Bra) 77 Walter ZENGA (Ita) 78 Abderrazak KHAÏRI (Mor) 79 Mathias SINDELAR (Aus) 80 Lakhdar BELLOUMI (Alg) 81 Eladio ROJAS (Chi) 82 Karl-Heinz SCHNELLINGER (Ger) 83 Telmo Zarraonandía "ZARRA" (Spa) 84 Gianni RIVERA (Ita) 85 Ronnie HELLSTRÖM (Swe) 86 Jan TOMASZEWSKI (Pol) 87 Zbigniew BONIEK (Pol) 88 Ricardo ZAMORA (Spa) 89 Alfred BICKEL (Swi) 90 Bryan ROBSON (Eng) 91 Alain GIRESSE (Fra) 92 Antonio RAMALLETS (Spa) 93 Arie HAAN (Hol) 94 Norman WHITESIDE (N.Irl) 95 Karl-Heinz RUMMENIGGE (Ger) 96 Luis CONEJO (CR) 97 Gaetano SCIREA (Ita) 98 Emilio BUTRAGUEÑO (Spa) 99 Daniel PASSARELLA (Arg) 100 Preben ELKJAER-LARSEN (Den) Finally, France Football remark that the following players would have been ranked between 101 and 105: Joël BATS (Fra) Roberto BONINSEGNA (Ita) Kazimierz DEYNA (Pol) Ralf EDSTRÖM (Swe) Raimundo ORSI (Ita)
