CAF Ranking of African Clubs


CAF's classification of African clubs is made on the following basis: 

For the Cup Winners Cup and the CAF Cup: 
  4 points for the champions, 
  3 for the runners-up, 
  2 for a place in the semifinals and 
  1 point for a place in the quarterfinals 

For the African Cup of Champions clubs from 1965 to 1996: 
  same criteria as CWC and CAF Cup
 
For the CAF Champions League which started in 1997: 
  5 points for the champions,
  4 for the runners-up,
  3 for the clubs ranked 2nd in each group,
  2 for the clubs ranked 3rd in each group,
  1 for the clubs ranked 4th in each group.

Super cup
  1 point for a win. 

Worlds club championship
  2 points per round crossed.

Based on this table, valid at the end of the 2000 competitions, Al Ahly was named
as 'African club of the century' by CAF.
