Eredivisie 1985/86 Goalie Jan van Grinsven gets into the history books with his last minute equalizer (2-2) in the home match with Roda JC: he becomes the first keeper in the Dutch first division to score from a "normal attack" (as opposed to a penalty or a kick from the own penalty area) as he taps in during a goal scramble resulting from a corner kick. On October 13, 1985, the Dutch national team practices against F.C. Den Bosch, then contending for top positions in the league (third behind P.S.V. and Ajax) and renowned for its solid defense. With the playoff for the last World Cup place in Mexico against Belgium coming up, Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker wants to test the abilities of his side to break down strong defenses. Result: F.C. Finally, on the 27th of April, 1986, Marco van Basten scores his best goal ever, the perfect bicycle kick from near the edge of the penalty area, to win Ajax the match with Den Bosch, 4-1. It is of course no more than fitting that the greatest striker of a generation scores his greatest (though not most important or most outrageous) goal ever against Den Bosch. The man from Utrecht is in unstoppable form for Ajax anyway: 37 goals in just 26 league matches, 6 alone at home to Sparta.
