Zuid I Eerste Klasse 1946/47
Finally, the first district championship! With one point
more than the previous season, B.V.V. finish 5 points clear
of nearest pursuers N.O.A.D. In the first match of the
playoff for the Dutch championship, their debut, B.V.V.
destroy Ajax 5-2 at home (after 0-2 down), which is Ajax
largest defeat in the whole season and their only in the
playoffs. Unfortunately, Ajax win the following home
match 2-0 and never look back, not dropping another point,
and cruising to the title virtually unchallenged.
In contrast, B.V.V. lose twice to N.E.C., dropping out of
contention, before beating Heerenveen at home, thereby
ending the Frisians' hopes for the title. A home loss
in the last match against Blauw Wit (the only win for the
"Club van het Stadion" in the playoff - also M.V.V. register
their only win against B.V.V.) prevents the Bossenaars from
taking third place.
The most spectacular match in the playoff is M.V.V.'s 6-7
home defeat by Heerenveen: M.V.V. had been 4-0 up after
just over half an hour, but on a very wet pitch Abe Lenstra
inspired his team to reduce the deficit to just 4-5 down
at half time and score the winner three minutes from time.
It was the first of three successive seasons that Heerenveen
outscored all other contenders in the playoff (and in all,
B.V.V. also took part, but their traditional strength was
defense), but the Dutch title has always eluded the men
from "het Friese Haagje".
