Eredivisie 1999/00 The first season in the top flight since seven years started with a visit of champions Feyenoord. An ignominous 0-4 defeat set the tone for a hugely disappointing start of the season, home draws against expected fellow strugglers Cambuur, De Graafschap and MVV interspersed with defeats in nearly every away match. Only a few exploits deserve mention, a heroic 3-2 win over Utrecht and another win over Vitesse. The acquisitions of Vos and Wreh during the season did little to help, and if Den Bosch still have a chance of survival, it's because Cambuur are doing just as bad. After 24 rounds and a 3-0 defeat in Doetinchem, trainer Koopman left, annoyed with new players showing up at training that he had never heard about. Den Bosch had already contacted Mark Wotte of Utrecht, and after Koopman's stepping down, he stepped in immediately. Hopefully he'll manage to turn things around - but his first match was away at Feyenoord: 0-3. Since then, another loss at AZ was followed by three 1-1 home draws (all disappointing, vs. Willem II, NEC and Ajax) and the first away win of the season, and that an important one: in Leeuwarden. However, since then Cambuur managed an away win at Sparta while Den Bosch only got one point out of the matches with RKC and Fortuna. A good away draw at Heerenveen (who thereby reached the Champions' league) was spoilt by neighbours' Willem II lack of self-respect and sportsmanship: losing 1-4 at home to Cambuur. In spite of a last round thumping (7-0, 4 goals by Vos) of Sparta, that meant Den Bosch were relegated, as Cambuur won at home to RKC. Check here for more data on the regular season.
